The Dementia Society of Goa invites you to join the rest of the world in
observing the month of September 2003 as the WORLD ALZHEIMER'S MONTH and
21st September as the WORLD ALZHEIMER'S DAY.

With the rapidly aging population in Goa, the numbers of people with
dementia is also on the rise. It is estimated that there are over 3000
people with dementia in Goa itself. Unfortunately most often they are
mistaken for old age and are neglected due to lack of awareness.

The theme this year is IN PERFECT PARTNERSHIP and it stresses the need for a
perfect understanding between physicians, carers and the people with
dementia. It also strees the need for people and organizations to get
together and express their concern for those who once cared for us. We
request all of you to join hands with us and participate in the awareness
activities to be held this month.

The Dementia Society is an organisation dedicated to the cause of helping
families of people with dementia. We have started the Dementia Home Care
project in the Bardez and Tiswadi taluka on a pilot basis and will soon be
constructing a fully equipped Alzheimer Home in Goa that will cater to the
special needs of people with dementia. The Goncalves family of Britona have
donated their Ancestral home for the purpose.
