Dear friends,
Please find following two files attached.
1. Letters sent by NEW to Mr Manmohan Singh, Ms Sonia Gandhi and Mr
Rahul Gandhi with list of MPs with criminal background asking for giving
ministerial berths to only clean and honest candidates.
2. Detailed and updated analysis for new Lok Sabha MPs. The release
contains analysis of criminal records, red alert constituencies and analysis
of MPs with criminal background who have lost.
The highlights of report are:
1. Several heavy weight candidates with criminal background have been
rejected by voters. In fact top 5 MPs with criminal cases from 2004 Lok
Sabha have been rejected by voters. Others who have been rejected are Atiq
Ahmad, Mitrasen Yadav, Mukhtar Ansari, Taslimuddin, Abu Azmi and Mohd Tahir.
2. There are now 153 MPs with criminal charges and 74 with serious
criminal charges.
3. BJP has maximum MPs having criminal cases - 43 MPs have criminal
cases against them, out of which 19 MPs have serious criminal cases against
them. It has followed by congress - 41 MPs with criminal cases out of which
12 MPs have serious charges against them.
4. Comparison of top 10 MPs with criminal records in 2004 and 2009 Lok
Sabha Elections clearly indicates that number of candidates with very
serious criminal backgrounds has declined. For the top 10 MPs with most
serious criminal charges, the total number of cases decreased by 42%, count
of serious IPC charges reduced by 32% with a 55% fall in murder charges.
5. In the constituencies where there was only 1 candidate with
criminal cases, voters chose 85% of the clean candidates and rejected most
candidates with criminal background. In the constituencies where there were
2 candidates with criminal background, they chose clean candidates in 68%
constituencies. The percentage of clean candidates however went down to
around 40% in constituencies with 4 or 5 candidates. It went further down to
22% for candidates with 7 criminal backgrounds.
6. The new Lok Sabha has far richer MPs than previous ones. The
average assets for MPs for most parties have increased in these elections.
Average asset for a congress Mp in 2004 was 3.4 crore which is now 6.8
crore. For BJP it was 1.2 crore which is now 3.6 crore.
Thanks & Regards
Anil
