Subject: luggage carriers suggestions?
I am trying to make my Trek 4300 suitable for commuting. For folks who
have/know this cycle, what suggestions do you have for a) fenders? b)
rear luggage carrier? I have a back pain problem, so I would probably
carry my backpack(w/ laptop) on the rear carrier.

I have seen some Firefox branded fenders on some bikes. I didnt
particularly like the look. but is that the one which I am most likely
to find around?

For the rear racks, I liked the decathlon ones. But am not sure what
to use for securing backpacks to it. I have seen some commuters in my
tech park (EGL) to use some kind of flexible cords. Any suggestions
here?

Thanks,
  Sandip

I commute with Trek 3700+Decathlon rack+Bungee cords

Decathlong rack has hooks to use Bungee chords and you can get bungee
chords from JC road for 50 Rs!

the carrier it gets into an awkward position and one of the rods on which
the career rests collapses and causes a braking effect. Is this problem with
a fitting or design - others hv seen such an issue?

Mayank,
It works perfect for me! No such problem on lifting the cycle using
the rack... it has lots of nuts and bolts to be tightened while fixing
though...

off-topic :

I'm concerned about the vibrations if I strap my laptop to a rack. It
may not be a good thing for your laptop unless it is one of these

Johnny, vibrations damange the hard disk only if it's spinning. As
long as your laptop is switched off or hibernated, it should be fine.
Just make sure it's safe from dust, heat and water.
